Call for panel contributions for BAAS 2014

British Association of American Studies annual conference, University of Birmingham, 10-13 April 2014: The US perspective on Chile, 40 years on.

Following the National Security Archives’ Chile Documentation Project which resulted in the 2003 publication of Peter Kornbluh’s The Pinochet File, the role of the United States in supporting and directing covert activity in the 1973 military coup in Chile has been increasingly well documented.

September 11th 2013 marked the 40th anniversary of the coup, a date which was commemorated in Chile and by exile communities across the globe with a broad range of cultural and political activity.

The UK network ‘Chile 40 Years On’ invites contributions to a panel at BAAS.  We welcome proposals for papers from any discipline that further existing literature on the subject, with the proviso that they explore this event from the perspective of the United States.  We would particularly encourage discussions of the cultural manifestations of September 11th 1973 in the United States.

Proposals for 20 minute papers (250 words max) and a brief bio should be sent to Dr. Francisca Fuentes and Dr. Nick Witham by Monday 28th October.  Please copy in both email addresses:
